Hello all,
This is my first (of probably many) posts. It envolves the steering on our recently purchased 2003 Starcraft Aurora 2000 Deckboat. When idle the steering wheel is quite sluggish to turn and has about 2" of 'slop'. Once the boat is on plane the steering does get easier as one would expect but still the 'slop' is there.
The other day, as I was working in the storage area under the helm I noticed that the steering cable appeared to be sandwiched between the hull and deck halves. So much so that I could not pull it out. Is this a manufacturing uh-oh or is it normal to run the extra cabling between the halves? There does not appear to be enough room for the cable to run straight back to the transom (cable is too long?).
Is this 'normal' steering slop? Or could the routing under the deck be the reason for the stiff steering and slop?
I will try to get pictures when I return home tonite.
