SLOW keeps kicking in on my 1988 120 Johnson. I have disconnected the tan leads to both heat sensors, and also the tan lead that is connected to the wire from the VRO oil tank, to eliminate a defective heat sensor from tripping SLOW and also to eliminate the low oil and no oil warnings that would activate SLOW. But SLOW still comes on, even with all three of these disconnected. It appears to be heat related as the motor revs up fully when cold; SLOW usually does not activate until the motor thoroughly warms. Even then the motor still runs fine as long as I keep it below about 2700 rpm's. Shutting the motor off does not seem to reset SLOW to the off position. It still will only rev to 2700.
Unless I am missing something, the only thing left would be the power pack? I did check and clean all electrical connections to the PP. Is there a way to disconnect SLOW related leads to the PP? At this point I would run without SLOW, for a time. Can I test the PP?
I assume the blocking diode in the harness is not an issue. Where is it located and is it replaceable? I say it would not be an issue only because I presume it is only there to keep signals from the VRO tank from activating SLOW. Am I wrong?
Thanks for the advice. I am pulling my hair out on this one!
