Re: Slow No Wake photo

i think in no wake zones they are more concerned with speed than wakes.
because no wake zones are always in enclosed areas, and it would not make sense to shoot thru them at 30 mph. even thou you may have less wake at 30 than you do at 5 mph.

yea, wakes suck, but that is a part of being on the water. learn to deal with it.
I get really tired of wakes too, but when it is busy out, you just have to deal with it.
a boat has it's biggest wake when it is on the verge of getting on plane. so 9 mpg or so for most boats.

And to 45 Auto, I have never seen a "no wake" sign here in MD, all I have seen is "6 MPH" bouys.

No wake means no wake. It has nothing to do with a speed limit.

One fact that seems to elude those morons is that they are responsible for damages caused by their wakes.

A friend of mine grabbed a video camera and caught a moron on tape passing a no wake zone on half-plane. The tape also showed the boats bouncing around the marina. One boat rocked so hard the fenders rode up onto the concrete dock. The boat had some pretty good-sized gouges in the hull. The police followed up and the moron's insurance company had to pay.

To this I say thank you for alerting the cops, If somebody did that and screwed up my boat I would hope others would do the same thing you did for me, as I would do that for them. It's no different than if somebody hits a car in the parking lot.

Here in the 1000 Islands cruisers that got at just under plane are a big nuisance. There are many islands where some docking is not usable because of these jerks.
Another boater told me that if you record their registration number and get one other person to verify what you say, the boater can be fined up to $1,000 and there can be more action taken by both the US and Canadian Coast Guards.

I hope this is true because as I said, it is a huge problem. And I am trying to verify this fact but not being very successful......yet.

Somewhat related I was recently on a river that people cruise boats , speed boats , do tubing, swim (maybe death wish?) as well as ski flea on called the Fox river and all the vessels are running at full bore, maybe 100 or so yards across.
Chain of lakes IL, all full bore all the time, go all which ways and generally be a moron, IMO dumbest boating scene I ever saw.

As I have stated on these forums a number of times I grew up on the Fox River Chain. Used to be a fun place. Today it's a mad house. As you near McHenry the river now becomes No Wake. It's become a zoo, fend for yourselves! But then the Twin Lakes isn't much better.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy rocking a bit on the water. It's when I'm working on he boat or helping people in that seeing a 2' wake roll in is a pain. Someone also mentioned possible damage. I would hate if my fender rode up onto the dock an my hull was damaged due to a wake.

Re: Slow No Wake photo

my marina is on a river, and it does not have a no wake zone around it.
It is wide open to the river, without any breakwater.
I just have to deal with the wakes.
But it is on a floating dock.

I'm on a river as well. I couldn't imagine a large boat going by tossing a big wake. Btw my docks are floating as well, but my boat rocks seperate of the dock.

Re: Slow No Wake photo

it is not like these boats pass within a few hundred yards of the marina,
this is the lower Susquhana river, so it is over a mile wide.
So most boats pass a quarter mile off shore.
but the wakes still travel over the the dock.

Re: Slow No Wake photo

That would explain the lack of a no wake zone. You can see in my photo, there's not much room from shore to shore on this river. Larger wakes can make docking and launchingca more difficult task as well.
