'94 Merc Black max 200 hp. My motor frequently takes 10-20 seconds to produce water out of the tell tale after I start it. I run the boat in salt water and flush the engine regularly. I replaced the water pump last year and still had the same problem. Motor runs cool and fine other wise. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or should I be concerned.

TIA

pete

10 seconds would seem to be normal to me. It does have to suck it up the shaft and fill the water jackets before it can pee :)

Re: Slow on the uptake

Thanks for the responses. I have only owned the engine three years and have never replaced the thermostats. I wouldn't have thought there was a relation. Seems to me that other engines pick water up almost instantly.

My 150 Merc takes about 30 seconds or so before it starts to pee. Did you edit your original post? Seems you said it took longer when I read it the first time. You engine is just fine and mormal.
