well i finally got my 200hp merc installed on my boat today, but again when I tried to turn it over, it turn over very very slow even stopped at one point. After doing that twice I noticed smoke was comming from the base of the starter. Ive already clean the inside of the starter and it looked ok...
I had my dual battery switched to (2) so i have full cranking juice...
battery were recently fully charged...
even using jumper cables previously (before installed) it would turn over slow...
With all PLUGS OUT it turns over FAST like normal

any ideas guys, BAD STARTER ?

I'm not trying to start it. just seeing how it turnss over...

BIGKASH
If all the connections are clean and tight, your starter is shot. I'm betting it is bad anyway,as the smoking is a pretty good clue that the windings are fried. Try to find a place that rebuilds car starters and ask them if they will rebuild it for you. Much cheaper!!

Well, if you're not trying to start it, I'd guess you had no fuel in the cylinders. No fuel, no lubricant in the cylinders. If this is not the case and the cylinders are wet, you might have starter motor problems.

c/6

Hooty
