I have a 2011 NauticStar 1900 Offshore Center Console with a 2011 115 Yamaha 4 stroke outboard. I swithced out a 19 pitch prop for a 13 and 1/4 17 pitch prop. The boat now comes out of the hole much quicker, but still slower than I'd like when 3 or 4 people are abaord. I don't want to add trim tabs because of the location of the swim ladder, however, I have bee looking at planing fins to install on the outboard. Has anyone had any personal experieince with palning fins/stabi;izers? If so, will they help me get on plane quicker?

Re: Slow to plane

Foils as I call them can be effective but do depend on a proper setup to begin with.
Otherwise they can act strangely and will lose speed a use slightly more fuel.
If you read the stickys at the top of the page and the helps on the prop store page
And get us as much info as possible we can tell better if your setup is working.
Quantify "Slower than I'd like"What is the hp rating of the boat.

Re: Slow to plane

It does appear your at the bottom extreme of acceptable power.
It certainly does well with a 16" prop though as you add weight
may be slow for your tastes. You might consider a 4 blade prop
to me a better all around solution over a foils and maybe even tabs.
It will improve hole shot, ability to stay on plane, ride, low to mid range performance
and handling around the dock.It may lose a little top end.Your final pitch would depend on your
rpm with the 17 you have now.
Tabs both active and passive can vastly improve hole shot, ride, handling
and ability to stay on plane. However both types even with careful application
will use ever so slightly more fuel than a properly setup boat with no tabs.
