Very small amounts like half the size of a pencil eraser-ok. When you get longer "splinters" of metal start worrying.

Somewhat common on a newly running in gear case.Always make sure you shift briskly from neutral to forward or reverse or it will cause premature wear of the gear lobes.

rick, for clarification , lorins " half the size of a pencil eraser" surely refers to a clump of fine metal hairs mixed with lube and not a single chunk of metal.

English language and interpretations trips me up all the time. No offense, we all probably knew what you meant.
