small block GM engines

I have several V8 inboard flywheel covers from older GM (BW) setups with rear mount starters. I guess they are all out of the early 70's.

I found a 90's model 4.3 engine But have been told I will have starter issues and I will need to move the starter ring to the rear of the flywheel. Has anyone been down this road? Any advice or sites I could try?

Thanks Lyle

I`ve swapped the ring gears on V-8`s, never a 6. should be the same.
using the rear entry starter requires you to use the opposite rotation starter for the engine. a standard rotation motor must use a reverse rotation starter, and visa versa.
you could retain the standard starter (engine mounted)with the housing.

Thanks for the info on the ring gear. The housing I plan to use has the correct starter plus it does not look like it will except the front mount. I really want to use the rear if possible. I seem to remember a problem with the different flywheel on a one piece main seal?

Ayuh,.... They're balanced slightly differently to compensate for the differences in crankshaft weights, 'n the center bolt pattern is smaller than the old 1s....
