I am using polyester resin in this boat. I chose it for the cost savings. I applied resin liberally once to the plywood and the resin soaked in, so then I applied another coat. I am going overboard to try to waterproof the plywood as good as I can.

Looks to me like you're doing a fine job. Kudos and keep those updates coming.

poly resin without cloth will crack and come off the plywood after a few weeks. however on the small boat it may not be an issue.

Well I followed Woodonglass’s instructions for priming and painting the boat. It now has two coats of primer and two coats of paint! She looks much better than before. Might put one more coat, but I havent decided yet.

Well, I picked an absolutely perfect weekend to resume working on this boat. We had a balmy 105 degree heat index in north arkansas, and I decided it was time to work fiberglass! The good news is I think I lost ten pounds today!

I have been somewhat nervous about the overall thickness of the hull on this little boat, so I decided to add one more layer of 1708 to the inside of the hull Saturday. The extra layer really made the hull feel more solid and I am happy with that decision.

Next I cut and installed pink foam insulation board to fit on each side of the stringer for my flotation foam. I was able to fit two full sheets under the deck. There isnt much room between the deck and the hull in this little boat. Then I put the fiberglass wrapped plywood deck in the boat, applied peanut butter around the edges of the deck and along the seams and applied a layer of 1.5 oz fiberglass mat across the entire deck and up the sides of the hull.

It is starting to come together! My next step is to install the seat base in the front. Then I am debating putting a bench seat across the back like they have in shawnee or supreme river boats. Can anyone think of any reason not to add a bench seat?

Seems to me a bench seat would offer a lot of flexibility and provide needed storage in a small boat. Great idea IMO.
