Small Merc. Prop Question.

I am running a 60hp mercury (small gear case) on a 08 Basstracker. I have what is probably a simple question to answer. I changed from a 14p alum prop (Huslter) to a 14p Stainless (Stiletto Triad). With the alum prop, I could run about 39 mph at 5800 rpm, and use all my trim. With the Stainless prop, an running 35 mph and can only turn about 5600 and any more trim and the prop blows out. Do I need to change the pitch up or down? Or have more cup added to the prop? Open to any and all suggestions.

Re: Small Merc. Prop Question.

Not an expert but::
I think changing props wasn't necessary.Don't know what basstracker you are running but it appears to me your setup is excellent.In a brief look at various 60 hp tests none exceeded 32 mph.Probably boat closest to yours was the Alumacraft navigator 165,did a little under 30.All the tests were SS props.Not a Merc but hp is hp.It appears to me the motor isn't happy with the Stiletto Triad. Was the 39 by gps?Any blow out with the Hustler?
If no blow out you may be able to raise the motor some gain a little more speed and rpm then consider a 16 hustler.Hustler is an excellent aluminum
prop with near SS performance.

Nope I dont have any blow out with the Hustler. I might try a 15p or 16p hustler to just see what happens.

I have a 2008 175tw it has the transom set back from the pad which i think really helps with stern lift and getting most of the boat out of the water.

Re: Small Merc. Prop Question.

Generally when going from an Al prop to SS you drop the pitch down.
I just went thru the same problem with my 30 HP Mercury 4 stroke.
I had a 12P SS and had the pitch changed to 10P by a local prop repair shop. $50.00. Saw an increase in speed and rpm's were up to recommended top number of 6200.

I did not change the motor mounting.
