sorry if this is a stupid question but this is my first small outboard i've owned. I've read the fogging and winterizing stuff but i havn't found anything on the lower units besides changing the gear lube. on our I/O we run anti freeze through the motor and stuff to winterize, but i never heard of anyone doing it on small motors. So heres my question, on an evinrude 18hp fastwin, what do i need to do besides fogging and changing lower end oil? how am i sure all water is out of water jackets in motor and water pump housing? i assume the water just drains out right? motor is stored upright on back of boat

Stand it up in the corner of the shop, then tuck it in and kiss it goodnight, next spring pull it out and use it.

Outboards are self-draining. Change the gear oil, let her drain and toss it in the garage. If storing outside, spray some fogging oil into carb when idleing in a barrel, then let drain and change gear oil. Hit grease fittings as well.
