small puddle in the boat.

Took my boat on a trip yesterday. Opened up full throttle and was running about 40 mph for about 2 hours. Started to notice a little puddle in two different places right by the dash board. After a little trouble shooting it appears that the water was coming out from behind the speedometer. Coming back today, I was running at 30mph and no water came out. Not sure if the speed is what is causing the problem. I noticed the same puddle last week when I was mostly trolling, but didn't at that time know what the source was. Obviously the water is coming through the pitot tube, but not in all conditions. What is causing this to happen?

Re: small puddle in the boat.

A small break in the pitot hose will do that.
More speed equals more pressure and the water travels farther up the tube.
Happened to me too... Right next to the throttle control handle.
I went to my local hardware store and got some 1/4 inch compression hose fittings and a union.
Speedo works good, and no more little dribbles, although it'd prolly be a good idea to replace the hose at some point before it breaks someplace below the waterline.

The higher the water pressure the more water travels up the tube. Glad it's only the tube and not a real problem ;)

I will go out and look tomorrow, might have a small crack where it goes into the speedometer and then leaking down. When I stuck my hand in behind it I could feel a little water. I was more worried about it shorting something out in the instrument panel.
