Hi, I would like to add two speakers to our boat but 6.5" are too large to mount in the location I want. Are 5.25" speakers good? Any recommended brands?

Re: smaller speakers

Most speaker manufacturers make good, better, best quality speakers...so yes you can get good quality 5.25" speakers. I think your real question is will they sound the same as an equivalent pair of 6.5" speakers? No they won't simply because of the reduce speaker cone surface area. This leads to okay mid and highs but bass tones suffer. You will definitely be able to hear them fine but you will not have much bass. The 6.5" speakers will only be a little better. For truly noticeable bass you need sub-woofers.

Which ever speakers you install, make sure they are marine rated. And if it's available, get the extended warranty on them. I had a pair of Sony marine speakers self distruct in a covered flybridge and never having been wet. $120 and I got 18 months out of them. I replaced them with better Sony marine speakers for the same price and got a 5 year warranty for $15.
