Wanting to order some smart tabs for my 2000 Cobalt 206. The way my transom is designed and where the speedo pickup is, I can install the 1080 models (10" wide by 8" deep) without any mods. If I move the speedo pickup inboard more, I can fit the 1290 model (12" wide by 9" deep) My questions are will there be a significant difference between the 2 different sizes and is it that big of a deal to move the speedo pickup a couple inches closer to center hull?

Thanks
Bill

PS Already talked to someone at Nauticus and they didnt seem it would make much diff, but wanted more opinions.

Re: smart tab options

you need to order the correct ones for you boat, not where they will fit, without moving something. a picture of your transom would help greatly.

My point exactly. When I contacted Nauticus they told me I needed the 1290's. But when I mentioned the speedo pickup being in the way, I was told to order the 1080's.

I'm sure anything will be better than what you have now. Will the larger ones have more impact, sure they will, but I'm sure the smaller ones will make a dramatic change as well. If it were my boat, I would use the smaller ones instead of moving my speedo pickup. I'm sure the sales person would not have suggested the smaller ones if they didn't think they would work, because if they don't work then you could call customer service and state that you followed their suggestions.

Here is a pic of the transom. The outer portion has no flat surface for mounting anything.

Re: smart tab options

Don't you thinkthe smart tabs are more effective as far outboard as possible? That was the impression I got from Nauticus when I ordered and installed mine. I actually relocated a dive platform bracket and used one of the mounting holes to mount the top end of the piston. It looks as if you could run that speedo pickup on a diagonal toward the inside and still have undisturbed water moving over it.
Just my .02.
And the smart tabs have been everything if not more than what I was expecting, so good luck!

Definitely would mount them just outboard of where the speedo is, that space is exactly 10.25 inches. Just no way to mount them on the outer curved transom section.
