Smart Tabs again

I went to BPS today to get a set of smart tabs and got to thinking. (bad habit) On a typical fishing trip I only run my big motor 1/2 to 1 hour a trip. The rest of the day is on a trolling motor. Wouldn't those tabs act like air brakes on a jet airplane causing a lot more drain on my batteries? Or is my thinking screwed up again?

Re: Smart Tabs again

I have the tabs on my Bass Boat, and have no problem with them dragging, Backing up, or getting in the weeds. The speed is so slow, that there is no difference. If you are talking about a gas trolling motor, usually the problem is trolling too fast, so I would think the little bit of drag would be a good thing even though I still think it wont make any difference at all.

You're getting MUCH more drag trolling from the full hull being in the water. That doesn't stop you. You won't know that they're there. Best thing is, you can just forget about them. Nothing to adjust, nothing to look at. Just great performance.

I'm using a 65lb trolling motor on a bass boat. I just remembered that I usually forget to raise the motor, so I guess I would be getting a lot more drag off the prop of that 150.

It should not make any measurable difference at that speed. When Trailer Baots Magazine tested the Smart Tabs on a 19' Maxum and ran it a varying speeds the slowest was 1000 RPMs and the boat went 5.2 MPH without the tabs and 5.3 Mph with. This is the best data we have at this point.
