based on that statement, i would think you need hydraulic or electric tabs, so you can adjust each side individually.

You need to try putting the side with all the weight a hole or two farther back (away from the transom) and/or the side without the weight a hole or two farther in (closer to the transom). Only adjust one side and a single hole adjustment at a time.

they claim to do alot of stuff.....but correct your situation automatically they do not. like mentioned above, try moving the one side and leaving the other side set on 3 and see if that rectifies the situation.

Re: Smart Tabs Application & Installation Info

Hi. My first post here. I just put Smart Tabs on my old 18' SeaRay with a 165 HP Mercruiser. I had been considering a hydrofoil but after doing some research here and other places I learned about this product. All I can say is these things are incredible and totally transformed my boat. We use it a lot for tubing and skiing. At lower speeds you used to have to stand up just to see where you were going. Very unsafe. Now the bow rise isn't much at all. I think they claim a 40% reduction but I'd guess it brought mine down at least 60%. It's more stable in turns too. It's too early for me to verify any fuel savings but if that's what they claim I'm inclined to believe it. I should get paid for an endorsement like this, LOL. :D

Re: Smart Tabs Application & Installation Info

Web Site says a professional can install in 30 minutes. I guess that is because they keep extra hardware on hand.

If you have to drive to the hardware store to get the nuts that were left out of your kit, the installation time goes up a bit. In my case it was 5/16 locking nuts to attach the strut to the upper plate.:mad::mad:

Just ordered Sx's for my 19' Key Largo with Yamaha 115hp 2cycle. Can't wait to see how it handles.

Now. I currently have an engine mounted stabilizer. I need to take this off, right?

Re: Smart Tabs Application & Installation Info

I'd like to make a straight forward post on the results of fitting SMART TABS to my Maxum 1800 SR3 - as a result of advice given on this forum.

They made the single most important improvement to my boat - they do everything they are supposed to do, for less than the price of a tank of fuel.

The fact that they stopped bow rise has made a fundamental improvement to my boat - Maxum should fit them as standard !

I'd also like to add that after sales form Nauticus was EXCELLENT.

I am in the UK, and when a damper failed, I contacted Greg .... a new one was with me within a week at no cost.

I appreciate that these are bought in items, and sometimes things fail - what was important was that Nauticus were there to support me - well done.

I am a bit puzzled by the statement of "No other plaining device to be used when using smart tabs". Are they speaking of the Hydrofoil or what?

What will happen is if you use another planing devise you can end up with them fighting against each other.
A Dolefin for example could be trying to force bow down, while tabs are trying to force it up - instability.

Since fitting my tabs I hardly use power trim anymore, boat always seems to be at right attitude ..
