Smart Tabs on 1998 Tidecraft Wildfire 120

Due to the shape of the transom and location of the tiedown rings on my 1998 tidecraft Wildfire 120, I'm unable to mount the Smart Tabs SX in the recommended position of 3" - 5" from the outside edge of the transom. To get the actuator mount where it will clear the tiedowns, they will be 9 1/4" from the outside edge (and about 16" from the center). Is that an acceptable location, or do I need to seek another solution?

Thanks
John

Why didn't I think of that?

Nauticus says that mounting position should be fine.

Thanks

Have you bought the SX? If not, the ST version is adjustable and will allow you to fit them closer to the preferred position.

Bought the SX and mounted them 9 1/4" from the outside. Hope to put it on the water Friday and see how they play.

Re: Smart Tabs on 1998 Tidecraft Wildfire 120

First trial with the Smart Tabs SX was somewhat successful. It came up on plane a lot quicker, less bow rise, and there was less list to starboard. However, it still would not stay on the plane below 3,000 RPM. Tinkering with the tabs in the water was a bit cumbersome, so I only increased the pressure one notch on the starboard tab trying to eliminate the starboard list. It helped some. I think I'm going to max out the pressure on the starboard tab and increase the port tab by one notch from center.

Overall, I'm happy with the results. I expect the tinkering will probably make me even happier.

Less list to starboard?? You haven't mentioned a starboard list before! Have you tried redistributing weight in the boat? The compromise location of the tabs will limit their effectiveness in correcting a list:(

I removed two oversized batteries and replaced them with two that fit the mounts, but that wasn't enough to correct it. The list's reappearance as today's run wore on I'll attribute to the gas I was running out of the tank. I burned 8 - 9 gallons today. As for the compromised location of the tabs, it was that or move the stern eyes on the transom.
