As far as a hoist. I used the 2x4 trusses in the garage with a large ratchet strap. Your engine only weighs 295 pounds. So its not really necessary to get to awful serious with how you lift her.

When I raise the motor one hole I believe it will leave a void between the top of the transom and the motor bracket. Not positive without looking at it though, but if it does will i need to add some kind of support on top of the transom? Or will the bolts take all load of the motor? Sorry if this doesn't make any sense

thats perfectly normal, not a problem at all, the bolts do all the work

singl your learning everything I did but your about 2 months behind me LOL I originally mounted mine in the top holes and then when my chief engineer aka the old man said needs to go up I said but the the top hooks of the engine wont be on the transom... He looked at me like most grouchy old men do you know the way they can make you feel REALLY dumb in about 2 seconds and said yea thats normal... Then made a grunting sound that sounded almost like young dumb punk...LOL I only kid my dads a great guy. You will be fine singl no problems with it being up above the transom.

Re. Smart tabs. Personaly I would only go with adjustable hydraulic or electric. That way you can ballance the boat sideways. I have put trim tabs on any boat 18 ft or over that will be in big water. Like the Pacific Ocean or you folks in the east the great lakes. The controll you get is well worth the $. You can also check Ebay for used ones.Seriously the boat will ride higher and level as you have full controll. I think smart tabs have some use but thy are set and not controllable by the operator. MY thoughts and 65 years on the water with big boats 16- 23 Glass and noow @ aluminum starcrafts a 16 SS and a 22 ft holiday with a 200 hp O/B. Fast quick and safe IMHO

I haven't been able to lift the motor yet, it's been raining like crazy out! But I think I'm gonna try the trailer jack method. Ive got an old 4x4 scrap laying around if I stand two on either side of the av plate and jack it up this will do the trick? Also my 5200 says to discard it after two days of opening. Does anybody actually do this? That craps not cheap to have to buy another tube every time you need it!

I had a tube of 4200 I used a year and a half ago and it said the same thing, but it was still good a week ago. When I used it, I rolled the tube from the end, then put the cap back on real tight.

HUH 2 days??? Who knew??? The stuff I used on my new transom was from last year. I would say your definetly good. I think your though processes on the 4X4 should work. Give it a try at least. You might end up with it binding up though when you take out the top bolts and losen the bottom ones. It might give the engine a little bit of tilt and bind up on ya. If that makes sense.

Sweet. I finally got a break in the clouds so Im gonna go test it out. I also picked up a transom ladder , so I'm gonna try and put that on as well. I think I know what you mean as far as the motor tilting and binding up, good point I'll have a couple buddies there to try and stabilize it for me. I'll let you know how it works out.

Well just a little update as to the status of the SS,

The other day I jacked up the Evinrude one hole. I used a 4x4 on each side of the AV plate and jacked up the trailer winch. It worked out flawlessly. The plate is now above the bottom of the transom approximately 1/2".-3/4" I had the boat out on the lake today and was still unable to bring it up on plane consistently and control the porpoising. For what its worth It was very busy today and the water was very choppy. However, at one point I had my girlfriend at the helm while it was on plane so I could take a look at the av plate, and I noticed that the hydrofoil (about 1" thick that is mounted on top of the AV plate) was submerged about 1" below the waterline.

At a properly adjusted height the should the AV plate ride even with the waterline? I still have three more holes to raise so i guess I will try raising maybe two more holes.

Yes. The foil should be out of the water.

My freshly finished 16 SS is a 1978 mod. It has a 50 hp 1984 evinrude w/o til os trim I have the cavatation plate dead even with the boat bottom out only 1 hole from the transom. NO porposing at all no weight in the boat except Batt. and gas can under the splash well. gets out real well and will run right about 35 WOT. My 22 Holiday with the 200 OB even with the botton of the boat and use the trim for best performance the trim tabs only to keep boat even, it change as the tide changes while running on the open water. You should not need to put tabs on a 16ft if every thing else is set right. IMHO 73 years of boating and have had to correct the same mistakes I see at one time or another.

Jst like I said I thought you might need at least 2 holes. Just keep raising it a hole at a time. Or jump a hole and do 2, but then you risk ruining a day on the water by raising it a hole to high. Like EZ said you should be out of the water. Your getting there, just trust us keep going up and this problem will get cured.
