Re: Smart tabs vs. adjustable tabs

I am sure most here know if they have been on here awhile. How about the new person who doesn't check profiles?

I know it took me awhile to figure that John was the CEO of the company that makes Smart Tabs.

I also don't think John is trying to sell anything, but in my opinion, is not fair in the trade-offs bewtween the type of trim systems and obviously favors the ones he makes when push comes to shove.

I was probably wrong in using the word "honest"...would have been better to use "forthcoming".

bruce, please be more careful when discussing other forum users. No need to accuse anyone here of not being honest OR "forthcoming". Re-read the posts in this thread then point out specifics if you disagree with them. Seems to be it was an excellent discussion of tabs....until you ruined it, of course.

I much prefer forum posters who think before they post......oh, make that "consider what they post".

Also, bruce, please point out ANY specific reasons for your position on tabs for this application to help educate and answer the original question. So far you've only made general statements like "you'll always be sorry" or whatever. WHY?!?!?!?

Wow tmh. Frankly, I think you just over reacted. FWIW I always post on these adjustable vs. smart tab threads because adjustables do not get a fair shake around here. As I always say, I love Smart Tabs for their ease of install, their lower cost and their simplicity. But I don't believe there is any application where they are superior, in fact far from it. bruce may have been a little less than polite, but I do believe that Smart Tabs are overrepresented here, and that's why I always chime in.

BTW, I've installed and used both . . . ;)

Re: Smart tabs vs. adjustable tabs

TMH,

This is a public forum of and for boaters. What is nice about it is that you get unbiased opinions of boaters that use various manufacturers products.

In this thread, we have a person who has a boat that really should have adjustable trim tabs and we have the manufacturer that comes on and says in the 10th post down:

The fact that Smart Tabs are active, and self adjusting will provide more comfort, convenience, and fuel economy improvements.

If this isn't promoting your own product, I don't know what is!

Maybe I am the only one on here that thinks this but the center of the site is for us boaters and the right column...the one that is often blinking... is for the advertising.

If someone has Smart Tabs and has a problem setting them up or other issues, that is another story.

Re: Smart tabs vs. adjustable tabs

In John's defense - I have searched these posts extensively before starting this thread. I was well aware of his posistion at Nauticus prior to my asking the question and anyone who has done their homework would know this (as well as other individuals affiliations). It should be up to me to gather the info, consider the source, and make an informed decision. I started this thread because my boat is larger (25 ft) than most who have asked this question on previous threads, and I was hoping to get John's opinion as well as opinions from others on this issue.

Re: Smart tabs vs. adjustable tabs

Bruce;

Please read the entire posting. I said from the beginning that it is a personal choice. One that I believe should be made on the "use" and "application".

The fact that I am stating that Smart Tabs would be more comfortable, convenient, and more fuel efficient is also an opinion, however based on some independent testing. Convenience is subjective, but it is my oppinon that when something works automatically, it is more convenient. The fact that Smart Tabs are active like a spring and shock system on a car is why Iam saying they are more comfortable. Again this may be subjective. The statement about fuel efficiency is both subjective and documented.

However; go back to the entire post and I think you will find that I am attempting to be fair.

I think Tom believes his sytems (Bennett) are the best, and I have very high regard for the company, customer service they provide, and the reliability of their product.

Our products are different, and the value should be based on personal choice and benefits. We are very pleased to have developed a product that has served our customers satisfactorially. At no time would I want to sell our product to anyone where their needs and expectations would not be satisfied. This would be the worst type of salesmanship, and detrimental to both the customer and the company in the long run.

If you are offended by my comments or statements that is unfortunate.
