I know I saw a thread here where someone was talking about the "blemished Smart Tabs".I can't seem to find them listed anywhere.I thought I saw them for sell on iboats.Does anyone have that link?
Also what model of smart tab would I need.
Boat is a z1900 Mariaha with a 4.3 Cobra Ho,supposed to be 210 hp. Boat is 19 feet long.
Thanks

Re: Smart Tabs

There is an applicatioin chart on the Nauticus web site. If you can't figure out what you need, give them a call.

Re: Smart Tabs

Use the ST1290-60 not the ST1290-80!

Blems are out of stock at the factory.

John
You think the 60 then would be better? It looked like from the chart the 80 for it.What is the difference?
I had a stingray on this boat for 6 years till one side of the foil broke of.It really helped the planing but from what I read the smart tabs would be much better for me.Even though my boat is a bow rider we use it intirely for fishing and trolling at slow speed. This boat seemed to list to right side with foil on.I saw a lot of difference after I took the foil off,so I want to go back to something else.
Think it will help top speed any? I can get 53 by gps with light load and no wind.

Re: Smart Tabs

pra100,

My experience with I/Os has been that the following will help you get the highest top speed:

Can you make her porpoise at full speed and full trim out (up)?

If the answer is no, or the prop starts to blow out before you get to full out trim, then maybe shifting some weight aft will help. Shift enough weight so she will just start to porpoise at full trim and WOT and the prop does not blow out. This should improve your top speed. Then you can control the porpoise with the Smart Tabs.

If the answer is yes, and it is uncontrollable without trimming in, then you may be able to move some weight forward and/or the Smart Tabs will help control it a lot.

If the answer is yes, and it is just starting to porpoise and it is controllable by trimming in slightly, then the weight balance is probably good and the tabs will help with the slight porpoise.

They are usually fastest trimmed out as far as possible and weight balanced so they just start to porpoise. In either case, you should be able to get more speed with the tabs as they allow you to set the boat trimmed bow up for maximum speed and then control the resulting porpoise.

Also, with the boat setup like this, hole shot and low speed planing are usually compromised, so this automatically results in the other major benefit of the tabs: they get you awesome low speed planing and improve the hole shot. I'll bet that set up like above, with tabs, your particular boat will plane at 12 - 15 MPH, and still rock at top speed. Good luck!

Re: Smart Tabs

QC is on the money, and Use the ST1290-60. The ST1290-80 is too stiff (actuators) and will likely slow your boat down by 3 to 5 MPH instead of increasing speed.

Motor trim when at cruising speeds or above should be out to the point where the prop is perpendicular to the water surface.
