hi:
i'm new to smartcraft technology and i would appreciate the help from those who know a little . i have a 2007, 200hp optimax and when i bought it the dealer rigged it to my boat and since i did not know the difference between smartcraft gauges and and the analog i putted the cheaper ones including the side panel control that are not smartcraft , it seemed to me like a good deal . but now that i know the difference between analog and smartcraft . i bought the tachometer and the speedometer sc1000 set wich come with small rigging cables , 4 junction box, ect... i would like to know if i put the speedo and tach.. kit , will i be still able to use the , trim , volt, hour meter old analog gauges since they are connected through a different cable that does not have anything to do with the engines yellow cap connector from with the new kit must be connected or do i have to buy the new ones to be interconnected with the new tach and speedo sc1000? i will appreciate the advice

Hi there, you can of course use those gauges with your new smartcraft gauges. Your old trim gauge will work because the dealer had removed the stock digital trim sender when the analog trim gauge was installed. If you ask nice I am 100% positive of this, one of the merc mechanics would give you a digital one that they have in their tool box. this will allow you to have the trim in the smartcraft system (digital, in .1 degree increments), which automatically pop up in the display when you activate the trim (you could also buy a link trim gauge)

Re: smartcraft gauges and old analog gauges used in conjunction?

Peter, I have a similar issue with analog vs smartcraft gages. I have a 1995 Maxum 2000SR which came with an Alpha 1 gen II outdrive and analog gauges. I recently up-powered the old 305 V8 with a 383 stroker and decided that I needed to upgrade the outdrive too. I put a Bravo 1 XR drive on it and when it came from the dealer the outdrive did not have a trim sender on it, so I bought the new smartcraft single sensor because the XR had mounting holes for it. To my horror, I then found out (after spending 300 on the sending parts) that the new sending unit (smartcraft and digital) does not work with the old gauge (analog). Can I buy a digital trim gage that will work with the smartcraft sending unit? BTW I do not have any of the DTS or other mercruiser engine control systems. Thanks for any advice you can give me. RFO
