I have a standard tachometer that was installed with the 350 Mag Horizon MPI on my boat. How difficult/costly would it be to replace the standard tach with the Merc Smartcraft tach? The reason I want to switch is so I will have fuel use, GPH etc. Anybody have any experience with these gauges? Thanks.

Re: Smartcraft gauges

If your engine is smartcraft equipped, it might be better to add a smartcraft monitor than to try to add a single smartcraft gauge. That way you would have access to all engine data, including the fuel consumption info.

To install it you would need the wire harness and monitor, and a place to flush mount the monitor. The monitors available are the SC1000 and the larger SC5000. The SC1000 would work great, and I don't think the cost would be much more than just changing the tach. Check ebay, I see smartcraft monitors and parts there all the time.

Dave

Blitzen,
After looking at the specs for the SC1000, I think you would be better off with the Smartcraft Tach (actually shows more data than the SC1000). Or go with the SC5000, more money but you can access all data the ECM has to offer, including diagnostic data.

Dave
