smelly walkaround cabin

It's not what you think... When I open the hach it has a gasy smell. It is not straight fuel but Definitely gasy. Any ideas?

have ya checked anything? like all fuel connections, fuel lines. fuel tank, fuel tank sender, fuel pumps, water fuel seperators, carbs......

maybe ya could let us in on what it is yer working on. i/o, o/b, inboard. a big boat, a little boat? wheres the fuel tank?

i've had two leaks on two boats, one was a fuel pump, one was a fuel line disconnect........ anything realated to the fuel system would be suspect...... do find it's sorce.....fuel vapors only need a spark and..............

All jokes aside, where is the head? Are the seals good on it and the black tank?

It's a 24 wellcraft with an inboard tank and an outboard motor. The smell is not pure fuel but the odor has an old gasy smell to it. The head is in the cabin but has been flushed with water and conditioner. The smell is not well...poopy. I just had the fuel line and connections checked. We changed the valve at the I had a leak 4 months ago at the fuel seperater. As I'm typing I remember wiping the fuel but not using a cleaner to "clean" the area. Wouldn't that just simply evaporate away? If not what cleaner would work. Thanks again guys.

i have dissolved dishwasher soap to clean greasey areas. the bilge would qualify for a greasy area. (cascade/dawn)

My cuddy (1850 Striper w/ outboard) has had a similar smell since new - not gasoline and not resin but similar to a mix maybe? If the boat sits closed, the smell will temporarily permeate the contents of the cuddy, but after about 1/2 hr on the water all is fine. I've never been able to isolate the source. Others have noted the same problem. If you can circulate air thru the cabin you'll eliminate the odor. I run my air conditioner blower on a timer (15 minutes a day)...

Thanks guys... I will soap the area and just air that sucker out. I'm relieved to hear others have had the same type of smell.

Get a tray about 10 x 14" put a layer of plain charcoal in it.
It will absorb the oders.

Try holding an open flame near the fuel system. If an explosion occurs, the problem is found. LOL!

Charcoal (poor mans activated carbon), the kind WITHOUT the wax / starter stuff on it... works great at soaking up organic odors... I second that approach after scrubbing, etc...
