My F 90 has been sitting in the garage since end of November. Has pleanty of stabil in it to keep the gas from evaporating and keep it fresh.

Throughout the winter I take it out at least once a month to run it and keep from sitting.

Upon starting today it initially blew a nice puff of blue smoke. The engine was stored in the fully down poisition. I'm using full synthetic oil M1.

Rod /JB should this happen on cold start up after sitting for a month ? Since this doesn't happen with car during cold winter wondering why oil would be slipping past the rings.

Thanks,

Kid

Re: Smoke at start up

More than likely oil is getting past the valve stem seals. If it were getting past the rings the engine would use oil and probably smoke a little whether warm or cold. A little puff at start up is not a significant concern. If your auto engine sat on end the lower cylinders would likely puff as well.

Up,

Yes I did a search today and found all the posts and solutions of slightly trimming the engine after shutdown.

I tried to serch this on the site before posting but the history only went back 30 days. It seems to be back up and running again.

Thanks for taking time to reply.

Kid

Stabil is part of the problem in my opinion - I have had carbs gum and fail becuase of that product. Try Sea Foam - never had a lick of problems as a result!

Good Luck!

kanadakid.
its most likly due to leaving it trimmed down, I prefer trimmed down for storage but with the cylinders horizontal or the spark plug end lower than the crank end its normal to have some oil seep by.
those engines have no valve seals as they are horizontal and especially if left trimmed down oil runs away from the valve.
