I have a 1986 15 hp Evinrude that I bought and it starts and idles fine, I haven't tried in on the lake yet,but in a 30 gallon barrel, it seems like it smokes more than usual, but I'm not used to running in barrels so was wondering if being confined just appears to smoke more from exhaust? I'm using 50/1 oil with 87 gas. Water pump and pee hole is pumping fine, head doesn't get hot to touch, It really starts smoking once in gear and revved up. Just don't want to damage anything if there's a chance for a problem. Many thanks, Knobby

Hi, Knobby.

When running a 2 stroke in a barrel, particularly in gear, a huge cloud of smoke is normal.

When you are on the water the same amount of smoke is spread out behind the boat and not so noticable.

Good luck. :)

Thanks guys, I'll not fret about the smoke, just put on a gas mask when she's running in the barrel.
Knobby

I agree smoke normal but one thing you said makes me wonder. You said head does not get hot to touch. Head should get hot to touch, normal is where can only hold hand on it for 4 or 5 seconds. You may want to pull the thermostat and make sure it is working.
