I have a 89 200 yamaha that lost compression in #1 cylinder. I have decided to repower with a Honda BF225 in the next few months. I am in the process of de rigging all the old yamaha stuff, guuges, binnacle, ect. My question is what is the best way to get some value out of the smoked motor? I know it can be rebuilt and is a value to someone. Would a dealer typically give me some trade in value on the repower? Is there someone who buys old motors to rebuild and give me a decent price?

I'd post it in the local papers and local fishing bulletin boards, and spread the word around with your friends, and try to sell it before you take it off of your boat, at least they can see it running with or without problems.

It's hard to get rid of a GOOD RUNNING used older engine, much less one that has problems, because of the labor to install and fix. Seems like less "do it yourselfers" are out there these days.

At least that is what I have seen over the past few years.

I have a friend that has a VERY GOOD shape 225 Johnson, that he can't get any bites on, and he is willing to sell for about whatever they would offer.

Sorry!!!

Ron
