Title pretty well sums it up. I have 2002 two stroke 90 horse Merc on my party barge. She runs great and never gives me any trouble, but smokes a lot when I first fire her up. Would switching to synthetic oil (or doing anything else simple) reduce the smoke any?

I think most 2 strokes blow a bit of smoke when fired up.What colour is the smoke.Maybe 1 cylinder a bit slow to fire, that will cause early smoke. You don't want plumes of white smoke
(moisture in cylinder).Check plugs are not unusually clean.Unlikely though you say she runs good.

If the check valve between the oil pump
and the fuel is not sealing, when the motor is
turned it It will continue to add oil to the gas.
