leave it to MARYLAND FISH & GAME to do the wrong things,, AGAIN... they only have one shot at tryin' to control these fish from speadin' ( walkin') to other bodies of water... but since the department is made up of a close-knit ( in-breed) group of billy-bobs.. sons of oystermen.. sons with the only credentials is they collected tadpoles as a kid,, bone headed this thing again.. they put in herbicide in the pond.. probably somethin' called 'WEEDO'... theory beenin' it would kill the plant life & inturn rob the pond of oxygen.. D A A A H H . WHO NEEDS OXYGEN.. these suckers can walk on land & survive for days... well ,, that failed.. daahh... now there gonna put some poison in the pond.. somthin' probably called " BUGGO " ...

Hey Crab Bait, Maybe since you know so much about it you should go tell them what they are doing wrong. Killing fish isn't something the game control people do on a regular basis and they probably don't have a lot of experience with it. Give them a break.

let's see 120 juvies and 1 adult? since I don't think they can reproduce by themselves, there's at least 1 missing... hope someone caught it and ate it! it's already too late for the round gobi in the great lakes, they've spread like wildfire. hope this doesn't happen here.

Mellow, was the other an adult caught and brought to the DNR to identify. I am wondering if that is how they knew the lake had the fish. Maybe it "walked off" to greener lakes. I do have to wonder what the person that let them go was thinking. He decided he did not want to eat them so he let them go in the lake. Can anyone be that stupid or was he just trying to cut out the middleman and have his own supply. Also seems kind've suspicious that there must have been male and a female released. I seems like this is the same thing as when that eel that is used for Sushi was let out. I heard that it is devastating the Everglades or something like that. I guess that eel can move between waters and it can dry out and still live. I like sushi, but the sushi made with that eel tastes really bad and the EEl is as ugly as this snakehead.

According to this article the Maryland DNR has caught 4 adults. HOwever now they caught a different species in another location. Talk about stupid. Here is the article for those interested. Snakehead in the bay

As for the "walking" to other bodies of water; I came across an article addressing this and it alluded to the idea of these creatures walking for 3 days as being exaggerated, it is more likely to be only hours under a "wet burlap" sack. It went on to state that their "skin" will dry out and they will basically roast. My understanding was the Snakehead is more of a "puddle jumper" than an animal that will walk from lake to lake. I'll try and locate this article again and post it here for all to see.

(they have REALLY cleaned the water here) In turn, the mature Bass eat these Gobi's. Sooner or later something is gonna be introduced that does not hurt the natural environment but helps it like something that eats only Zebra Muscles but then I hear they have done a lot to clean up the Great Lakes which is not such a bad thing.

crab bait...they purposely killed the vegetation first. they knew they were going to use poison also...it was a two stage process. killing the vegetation i believe was done so they could retrieve the dead fish easier before the smell got too bad. this pond is right behind a shopping center. Rich

Peter, the zebra's have REALLY cleaned the water. the pollutants didn't disappear though, they were ingested by them. Backwater, they can't live in saltwater.

MY, I hear you talking about these Gobi's , what are they? It seems that whatever is in your big lakes, ends up in our smaller inland lakes eventually, so is this something we should be concerned with?

they were introduced by foriegn ships emptying balast water. doesn't seem like you would have that problem inland like the fingerlakes area. unless some idiot, knowingly or not dumps a few in your lake. (live bait)or they can get in from the Erie Canal somehow?? I fist read about these in the NY state book you get when you buy your license. it tells you to NEVER release them alive. too bad I was on my cousin's boat at the time... we released 10! I have the book on my boat and would have looked them up. DANG! at least my 14yr old son and 12yr old nephew probably killed a few getting the hooks out. on a good note, we caught/released some nice smallies in the 16-20" range
