Re: Snake in da boat

Late, late post: (Hey I'm always a day (or month)late -on the forums anyway- and a dollar short! :D ) Dogsdad, surely you must know that the babies can be much more dangerous than the big ones? Supposedly they don't let go. They pump in everything they have unlike the adults, if this lore is true. Heard it from my HS advanced biology teacher who had pacific diamond backs all round his house where he lived. Get to the ER after getting bit and the doc's would usually way under dose the antivenom because they go by the amount of swelling. As you point out their toxin is different, so they cause little swelling. Don't care for any kind of rattler, much less ones with stealth poison. Love those king snakes and gopher snakes, though. Especially the kings will eat rattlers! :)

Wade Lee, I sure would love to go fishin' with you and your dad. I just laughed myself silly.

Re: Snake in da boat

We had a watersnake visit us last year, the scary part was we had been fishing for a half hour before he made his apperance from under the bow cushion. The boat had been tied up at the campsie all night , figure he was looking for a warm place .He wiggled into the indeck storage so I ran back to the campsite and proceeded to chase him all over the boat couldn't catch the little guy so decided to make a run to the store and hope he left on his own, apprently he did never saw him agin or had any unusual smells coming from the boat.Water moccasions rarely get more than 4' in length and are a thick snake, 4 footer would be as big around as your arm they can be aggresive if cornered but most will run if given the chance. Most snakes you see on the east coast in the water are common watersnakes (non posionous) any snake you see in the water more than 5/6 foot long is likely a black rat snake or black racer(also non-posionous) that wanted a bath. They won't hurt you if you leave them alone. Not a tree hugger, if you kill it you should eat it.If a posionous snake is spotted give it a wide berth it will run if small children are around you may need to kill it (careful they are fast and can reach farther than you would think). Don't panic , just leave em be and they'll do the same.
