For those of you that have snap in carpet, do you leave it in or take it out when you store it during the week? (I only get to use my boat on the weekends)

Re: snap in carpet

I would probably just take it out to let it air out as well as the boat floor, then throw it back in once everything was dry.

i took it out when i bought the boat and it hasnt been back in since. easier to clean and carpet doesnt get all nasty. i imagine i would put it back in if it was cold out and nobody was going in the water.

I leave mine in and then clean it when it's starting to look dirty, or if there's some sort of red soda disaster.

I also plan to take it all out when I winterize and pressure wash it so it's clean for the spring.

I take my carpet out and leave it out. The floor is pretty skid resistant so why bother to keep carpet clean. I figure when and if I seel the boat it will have new carpeting to.

Re: snap in carpet

I pull mine every season so the rubber backing doesn't fuse to the fiberglass sole (from being in contact for ever). I use 303 on the backing before putting the carpet back in. I have snap on carpet on the swim and extended swim platform which is exposed to the sun while at the dock (see photo). In retrospect, I wish I had pulled it during the week and stored it in the boat. These two pieces are really showing some wear from the sun (currently 9 years old). I think snap in carpet and the walk through transom are two of the better improvements in boats over the last 10 years or so.

lkbum-what is 303?

I take mine out every time when I get home so that I can wash the floor of the boat so it can all dry. Just curious what you veterans did. When you clean the carpet, what do you use?

Ours stays in the boat at all times unless its wet. If its wet it comes out before the cover goes on.

During the winter Ill probably pull it up but leave it in the boat.

When I had a boat with snap-in carpet, I left it in during the season unless it got wet or I wanted to do an extended boat cleaning. Then I took it out and hung it up to dry. Off season, it's better to take it out so it doesn't stick to the deck.

Carpet cleaner and a vacuum cleaner work for cleaning. If it gets really dirty or stained, a pressure washer works well. Don't get too close or use too much pressure. Your boat's carpet shouldn't be the first thing you ever cleaned with a pressuer washer.

Re: snap in carpet

I took mine out to clean the boat right after I first bought it and haven't put it back in yet. My dog doesn't like it when the carpet is out...but he can't complain like my girlfriend can and if it was dirty carpet she would be complaining and he wouldn't.

On a side-note, take it out if you are trailering. When I bought the boat and trailered it 2hrs with it in, I pulled it out and a few of the snaps had ripped free from the carpet. I'm not sure if they were ripped before but I could see how they would rip out if wind caught it.

We took ours out before we ever splashed it. Carpet free boating is the way to go! Sooo much easier to clean! Hose some good soap and a good scrubbing, 15 min.

I put it in airtight bags and it is on a shelf in the shed, when we sell/trade itiwill be like new.

Re: snap in carpet

I just started using my snap-in carpet this season. I have crazy flat feet and barefoot on the carpet is better than on the glass and I got sick of dealing with foot pain. I think I'd rather be missing a finger or two than have these flat feet since the pain can be so insanely bad on a daily basis. I figured why keep the carpet new for the next owner, you only live once since I know a lot of owners never use it. I do generally keep it in during the week assuming it is dry. Mostly the kids eat out on the swim platform or rear sun deck and haven't had any stain issues. I leave it in place for the winter since the boat is stored indoors. I will mention we do not fish hardly at all and if we did I'd likely just wear deck shoes and keep the carpet out. Ikbum mentioned snap in carpet and walk through transom as big improvements. I do like the ability to remove the carpet but dislike walk through transoms unless they have a filler cushion. The option to actually get the carpet itself as part of the options package was insanely overpriced on my Chaparral.

Re: snap in carpet

Mine stays in all summer but comes out when we pull the boat. As for cleaning, I keep a small vac on the boat. When I pull it for the winter I throw the carpet in the bed of my pickup and head to the self serve carwash. I was amazed the first time I tried it. It looked like new!

I am thinking about converting to the "faux teak" flooring when/if the economy turns around. Has any body used it?

Re: snap in carpet

I have it, i honestly prefer to have it in when on the boat. just seams more comfortable. Haven't had to yet, but i will be taking the carpet out when we decided to bring our chocolate lab with us. (want the easier cleanup from the hair). I do love the fact that I can easily take it out to clean the boat or for trips with the dog.
