So, how many of you have damaged your lower units on your outboard motors?

I have a spare complete outboard that came with my boat I bought last summer and I was wondering if I should hold onto the lower unit "just in case" or if damage to them is pretty rare. It seems when the lowers for these outboards sell on Ebay, ( 50 hp Force outboard ) they always fetch ~$200.

If you are for sure that the lower units will interchange and other parts would swap, I would keep it. I am not saying that lower units get damaged easily or by millions of people a day I am just saying why get rid of a parts motor unless you just don't have the room to store it. It not only the damage to the outer structure of the unit that you half to worry about you have parts that can go bad in them.

i would not pay you $200 for the complete motor. it's a FORCE. keep it, for parts, as they will and are becoming harder to get.

I NEVER sell any spare of ANYthing that I still own. When I sell the whatever, THEN I sell the spare parts (or sell at a good price, or incentive, to the new owner).
I have come to the the conclusion, if you have spare parts, you will never need them. Sell them early, and you will! And probably pay double to get them back.

If I mention sell around here, I get smacked up side of head.
If only I could clean out that back room.
Don't sell anything around here.
