It seems everytime you turn around somebody is getting bought out, USA to China Made, recalls and so on. I googled about 2 hours tongiht trying to get reviews and so forth. It seems currently that everyboday has thier problems. I didnt know if there was a tire to buy now that is somehwat good. My trailer book accually states for me to use a P205/70/14 tire. I even posted a pic of the broshure for people to look at on another post and they couldnt believe it. Its a 1990 VanGuard (Trailmaster) Tandom axle 22FT When I bought the boat it had the P205/70/14 MasterCraft A/V tires on it and still does. (Max PSI 35) Boat tows straight as an arrow and I've had zero issues with them But I can tell its heavy for them as the tires baloon out a little. They state 1400 lbs per tire so I know I'm still within range. Problem being is on tight turns it seems I'm going to blow out a sidewall. I have to back into a VERY tight driveway and sometimes the boat and truck is in a perfect L. I see that trailer tires come with a 75 sidewall now. I'm hoping that wont be a problem. I've found the loadmasters for 285, Titans 295, GY Marathons for 383 and Maxxis tires for 456 all shipped. I've also heard complaints from alll of them. Esp goodyears. Anythoughts?

I've always used Goodyear Marathons and have never had a problem for 14 years. I would guess all of the complaints could be traced back to improper inflation or overloading. The GY Marathons will need 50psi which should help with your sidewall flex issue.

i still run tow master, and carlisle, never had a problem with them, proper inflation is the key to trailer tires.

this is what i would use Carlisle.
ST205/75R14 5198131 LRC 26.1 8.0 5.50 1760 50 23.4 10

tandem trailers do not like tight turns, try to keep the wheels turning in a turn, rather than just scuffing them side ways.

Well, the traielr goes in Friday for some new shoes. I ended up getting TowMaster Radials. I didnt see much negatives on them + they were in my price range. $71.00 mounted and balanced for 205/75/14's I bought 5. 4 to replace my current car tires and 1 to replace my dryrotted junkyard tire as my spare tire.

Goodyear Marathon radials are great.
Best place to buy... Tire Rack under specialty tires, and they are shipped right to your installer.

TowMasters are the ones I prefer but I had problems locating them in the Los Angeles area. I had used them before with excellent results. Will be interesting to see what the date code is on tires you will be gettting as I had heard the manufacturing had stopped in the US and was either moving somewhere else(China perhaps) or stopping all together.

Also, Goodyear Marathons aren't necessarily the tire they used to be...also made in China.

Its so weird looking at the reviews for the goodyears. ALL were 99% positive till the last year or so then its al been negative. Eopinions gave it a 1.8 out of 5. Tirerack was 2 out of 5 and many sites just stated they hated them lol.

Hmmm, I wonder how long ago Goodyear switched to making the Marathon's in China??? My 5 year old Marathon's were made in New Zealand, but the new ones are from China.

Gee, when I got my brand new boat, the trailer had Goodyear radials. I thought, cool. I'm a 1/4 mile from the boat launch, so haven't got around to getting a spare. But I have big trip plans, so I need a spare. Now I'm wondering should I stick with Goodyear, cuz everybodies right, not much positive on the web about Goodyears.

Re: So which tires are good nowadays?

The goodyears that came on my starcraft are buldging on the sides. This was after about the first month so I called the dealer and he told me it was not a problem. He told that it from the mold they use.I have always had good luck with them but I dont expect the longevity out of these as I have had in the past. When I was looking at them there is a made in China on them.

The goodyears use to have a great rep and my family had good luck with a set. I didn't like my carlisle radials after a blowout with low miles. Went to Coopers and love them. Price was good too.
