The USA has presidents day, the most part of Canadian provinces have family day???? and us poor $%^% here in BC gotta crack the whip.
One thing I have noticed about holidays especially the stats is if you work for a union you sure get alot more than non union.

I have the day off. Frankly I needed it.. How's this for logic. My kids are PO'd because they have the day off and we just had a 16" snow yesterday.. So no snow day.

When I was a boy we celebrated Abraham Lincoln's birthday on Feb 11 and George Washington's Birthday on Feb 22.

When Dr. King's birthday (always falls on a Monday) became a national holiday the third Monday in Feb became "Presidents' Day".

Why? Because Congress thought we had too many holidays and wanted all holidays to fall on a Monday to make three day weekends.

There was even a move of Independence Day to the first Monday in July, and an attempt that failed to make Thanksgiving fall on the third Monday in November.:facepalm:

The Monday Independence Day didn't last very long, but it sure alarmed a lot of people.

I'm in the US.. Our kids have the day off from school, but only because it's a snow day. But both my wife and I are at work.

I guess the issue here is that money/income for the stat day off is payed for by the employer to the employees, and the thought is how much stat time/moneys paid out should the employer have to incur.

Self employed too. Taking the day off, it's well needed. Sitting on the dock reading a book, thanks to Deck Swabber, watching the boats go by. They can have it, I'm staying home.

Got the day off here too, cleaning the house my favorite past time NOT....not a bad day though a bit windy but for a February day in Colorado its gorgeous!!

So I drove into work this morning and was able to get a parking space really easy. Then went into my building and thought it was weird that there were only a couple people there.

I have the day off and didn't know it!

I work for a private company...that's why I didn't think I had it off! They readjusted all of our time off this year since we had such a profitable year, At XMAS, they gave us an extra 4 days at the last second paid.

Actually, I am a government type, but when I was active, I don't every remember getting this day as a holiday! Basically other than leave time, I worked pretty much 365.....

Working for a fast food business means I only get one holiday off and that is Christmas. On Call for all the other holidays, but might as well be working as I always get called in putting in a full days work anyhow.

We had it off last year for the first time that I could remember. We had an extra day since one of our traditional days off fell on a weekend or something like that.

When I worked for the state(Ohio) I used to get 11 or 12 paid holidays a year. The pay wasn't great but it did have it's good points, after your third year you were up to 20 vacation days a year, 3 personal days a year, and sick time accrued on an hourly basis, at one time I had over 900 hours of sick time accrued

I had to work as we get other additional days off that are not recognised. Mrs Ken had the day off but spent it doing her office work from home !!!:facepalm:
If we are going to get a "Family Day" holiday in Ontario then let's do it in the summer when we can make some real use of it !!!!
