Fuel leak blamed for boat explosion in Decatur

Marine Police are working to determine the cause of the explosion.
Eight people were on board a boat when it exploded Sunday afternoon. It happened at the Decatur Boat Harbor around 11 a.m. Some of the passengers were thrown into the water when the boat exploded. A boat exploded in Decatur as the people on board stopped to get fuel. Adams said it's fortunate that more people were not injured. Police say two people were blown off the boat into the water by the force of the explosion

This was a 27 foot SeaRay cuddy cabin boat. The fire was not in the engine area, but around the cabin area. Don't know all the details yet.

i'm sure the details consist of lack of proper maintenance and user error.

it may have been a complete fluke but usually that's completely preventable.

I dunno if related, but I meet more people who do NOT run/use their ventilation blowers than those that do

those 2 statements seem a bit contradictory

can anything else cause a boat to explode besides gas fumes? probably going to be an educated guess after the explosion and fire.

Sad. A lot of these luxo-cruisers require a living room of furniture to be moved to look in the bilge. I tore all the rear seating out of my 266 Cruisers when I had it.

Well gas in one form or another. Maybe they were looking at possible use of propane or something from a grill that exploded, not necessarily gasoline. Either way, the explosion doesn't happen without gas vapors.
