Re: Social Media Etiquette on the lake?

Some of us are happy to have all the communication that moves to social media miss us right on bye. I guess they cannot spam me, contact me, bug me, if I don't join in. That is all good to me.

Stingray seemed to move much of their effort on their private forum to facebook and encourage us all to join. No thanks. I like their forum, but don't need their facebook.

I've never joined their Forum however I friended (or liked?) Stingray on FB and I rarely see anything pop up from them, maybe every few months?

I don't know if they had the success with it they hoped. For a while they were only releasing pics of boats there first, and it seemed to me encouraging people to move from the forum to FB. Several people wrote that they would not.

The forum there is pretty good. This one is better for engine and outdrive maintenance. In terms of tuning your Stingray to your needs and tweaks that forum is really good. You just need your hull number to join.

I request that everyone put their phones in airplane mode for the trip. They can take photos and we designate a "significant other" time for guys to make a check-in phone call. It works well

Maybe I am odd but it doesn't bother in the least if friends are pics and post on social media. I am lucky enough to own and boat and live Ina region where I can boat year round. If a guest is having a blast and wants to share the days events it actually makes me happy. They are not there to entertain me and want everyone to have a good time. Besides often I am busying driving and being a captain so many times I get to take or do such things and afterwards I can see and enjoy their pictures. As far as "no cell phones allowed" that's just ridiculous. I prefer to not rule with an iron fist simply because I own a boat.

At a few pints yesterday my father and I could be seen poking around on the phones. Wouldn't spend the whole day on the phone, but did snap some photos, and was texting my cousin about his outdrive issues.

Ditto. I like having phones around to take pictures of that stuff. Someday my dad won't be around, and it will be nice to have some pictures of us enjoying the lake together.
