That's what SS told me in 1997, Boomer. In 1998 they raised it. In 1999 they said I could earn as much as I wanted and there would be no deduction.

Are you quoting old info or has the law been changed again? Please reference a current source.

Yes,that is wat SS told me too. They also told me that since my spouse earns over 44k I will be taxed on 85% of my SS ( 85% of recieved SS has to filed as adjusted gross income). I checked with my tax preparer and he confirmed the same. He also said that filing separate would not help unless we were not living together. The good news is all this goes away after age 66. So if your spouse earns over 32k you will be taxed on 50% and over 44k you will be taxed on 85% and don't forget about pensions.....thay also add to gross income. Uncle sam has put a double whammy on early retirees.

The guy I talked to at the SS office here mentioned $14K. I didn't ask if a pension is taxed after $14K. Anyone know?
