Hi.

I have a very small leak and water coming in right around the cow horn. I am trying to see if the bolts (#10-58640) are tight on the cow horn on my Merruiser 3.0. What socket fits on these bolts? I can't seem to get anything to fit. Does it require a special tool from Mercury? If so, what's the part number?

Thank you!

12 point socket should work. 6 point maybe not. Either 3/8 or 7/16 I think. A box end end wrench 12 point should work also. I Don't know when they switched to metric, but it's possible they are.

Thanks guys! Engine is still in and I'm hoping I can isolate the problem so that I don't have to take out the motor. I have a Bayliner Capri 1996 (made in USA) and it sure is tight just trying to see what the issue could be. I started by doing all the bellows hoping it was that and have tightened up the bolts on the transom mount plate. It's out of the water on a trailer now, so I filled up the inside of the bottom with water (just before reaching the starter) and it doesn't leek outwards anyways. I think I 'll take it on the water and see if it still leeks.
