Socket size for Rod cap bolts in 1984 Johnson 115? PIC attached.

finally split my PowerHead...Long slow process but going very good.

The omc manual calls for a OMC socket to remove the rod "cap" screws...they are a Bristol/Star type pattern I believe its called. Seems an 8mm might fit, but the issue is the clearance. The heads are sort of recessed and there is little clearance from the side of the bolt head to the "cap"--socket doesnt get in there well

Stumped at the moment, and I really wanted to get the pistons out and do some measuring. Rgggg. Anyone know how to remove these or should I shop around for that particular OMC socket????

That looks like a 12 point cap screw head which should work with any 12 point socket. You might have to use a 3/8" drive to get a socket thin enough to clear the cap. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me?

Thanks...Did some more research, and I believe it is a 5/16 12 point, just had to be thin walled. Gotta go find one.

I was thinking it looks more like 3/8" or even 1/2" 12 point, good luck.

Yep, thin wall 5/16 12 point. I've got one I keep in a safe place so it doesn't go legs and walk off.

Yikes...Went thru all my sockets kits. No 5/16 12 point thin. No others at all fit it! Going shopping tomorrow. I"m hoping thats the one. Spent a week taking things apart taking notes, pictures, labeling....I want to keep going.
