title says it all.
if the bulb goes soft at wot, is the problem the tank or a fuel pump?? at wot i have a fuel issue, i have the surges. i changed the bulb, fuel lines. the motor is kind of new to me, so i dont have a lot of history. 135psi in all four slugs, rebuilt carbs, new stator and switchbox.
now i have a surge and soft bulb. i also have a clear fuel filter and the fuel doesnt seem to stay full in the filter.
i have a quicksilver 6.5 gallon tank.
thanks

It is normal for the bulb to go soft (but not collapse) after the fuel pump takes over supplying fuel to the carb(s), dino.

Surging may be caused by several things, most common are water in the fuel and air leaks in the intake fuel lines.

the fuel is new, and the ball collapsed. i am stumped. what would cause this? as for leaks in the system there is a small possibility, but i dont think so.
what would cause the motor to starve and totally collapse the ball? i even opened the tank and it seemed like the tank wasnt venting but with the cap off that should not happen.
any thoughts?

A collapsed ball is not the same as a soft ball at all. Most tanks have an anti-siphon valve to prevent fuel flow back into the tank. If that fails it can block fuel flow in either direction. An unvented tank can do that, too, but you seem to have eliminated that.

Finally, your fuel line might be clamped off between the tank and the ball. I had one where the portable tank was on top of the line.

If all the feul lin is good check the pickup tube screen inside the tank for slime and rust blockage. You can take the gauge hose fitting off the tank and clean everything , then look in the tank for any slime floating around near the bottom of the tank.
