ok gang...I have a couple soft spots under my back two seats.

As you can kind of see in the picture (lower right corner of pic), I have the motor cover with the jump seats on each side. The softness does not come out past the bottom of the seat on either side (did the ice pick probe test to make sure) and it does not get walked on. Each soft spot is about the size of a basketball an is directly under the seats. I'm going to get in there tonight and take the seats up and pull up the carpet and take a look at it. BUT, since it doesn't get walked on and I know the surface rot doesn't extend to any walking areas, what would be the fastest (and cheapest :D) way to fix this?

that all depends on what you find under there. sounds close to the motor mounts and transom...good luck

Oh boy hope you are luckier than we were!
Well I'd get out the circular saw and set the blade to about 1/2 in and try cutting out each one in the shape of a square, make it nice and even, you may be able to make patch panels out of plywood to fix that area. But if it's there, it could be anywhere else. Esp under the helm seats and any area where screws went into the deck and moisture could accumulate.

Tore into it last night and it wasn't too bad. Found the stringer and it was in good shape so it was just the top ply wood piece. Took it out, cleaned the area and refoamed some areas that would empty and am going to replace the ply wood this weekend. The reason for the bad spots where they were is because when you get into the boat from the swim ladder, you step down on those seats and all the water drips off of you right there and that's where the softness was. I took a pick and poked around all over the floor in the boat to make sure I was ok since I had all the stuff out to replace anything if need bee and all was good. Under those two seats was the only softness I could find. :D Oh, and the foam didn't seam to be water logged either so that was another +.

I wouldn't rest till I ripped up all the carpet, epoxyed the deck if needed then put down some Durabak!

Well Lou, I would but I only plan on keeping the boat another few years and all the floor seems perfectly fine (now that I replaced the 2 spots) so I figured whoever I sell it too will get it in better shape than when i got it. ;) Oh, and don't worry. I will tell them about the two spots and that I replaced them. I'm an honest guy and wouldn't hide anything from them. we would keep it longer, but we want a bigger bow rider 19-21' instead of the 17 we have now. Just a little too cramped with 4 people in there. :( Other than that, great boat!

you could allways cut the boat in half and glass in an extension area ! make it a 22 footer ! :D

as far as the soft spots.....good for you that you didnt find a horror show.....the interior of the boat looked really good to find a rotted deck,
(a good interior uasually means it has been taken care of)

the proper way to fix an area of the deck is to fiber glass the area in....

did you just lay some new wood down in the cut out areas?
if you did, as an honest stand up guy, you made the boat prone to rot. the new owners will have trouble.
it just takes a minit to go in there and lay a layer or two of glass in there.
the repair will be permanant. and the soft spot issue will be gone forever

glad ya found the bad area before it got the rest of the boat !

cheers
