solar powered bow and stern lights?????

anyone know if they make solar powered bow and stern lights for a small fishing boat,

Think about that for a moment, bluebrownie.

Solar power requires the sun. When the sun is gone you require lighting. If you collect power during the day and store it in a battery, then you could use it to run your lights at night.

That shouldn't be hard to rig up.

i doubt that you will get enough intensity out of any solar battery system to shine through 5 feet of hase they use LEDS. Why do you want solar powered system??

Buy some of these and use rechargeable batteries and maybe a solar charger.

Why would anyone want to deal with charging batteries, changing batteries, and switching bow and stern lights individualy. What is the purpose of all this?

The bow and stern light of every boat are solar powered. That is if you charge your current battery with a solar panel.

Why would anyone want to deal with charging batteries, changing batteries, and switching bow and stern lights individualy. What is the purpose of all this?

No wiring or fuses to install, no large wet cell battery to lug around. Not my cup of tea, but it might make sense on, say, a 12' jon boat that gets tossed into the bed of a pickup for transport.

you guys are quick to burn anyone that mentions solar panels here... i think they might be a good idea. they make solar powered ones for sidewalks and walkways.... don't really know how they work, tho, if there's a small internal battery or what.

The problem is there is no way they put out enough light to meet USCG requirements.

There has to be a battery somewhere and if its supposedly self contained, there is no way it could possibly be big enough to light anything.

The sidewalk ones have a couple rechargeable AA batteries in them typically. If they were to put out enough light for navigation lights they wouldn't last very long.
