I am considering replacing an aluminum OEM propeller (13.5 x 15) with a Solas SS on a two stroke Yamaha 60 H.P. This is because I fish lakes with rocks and timber and keep tearing up props. The boat has no performance issues reaching +30 mph at 5200 to 5500 rpm. New SS prop has same specs but larger ears. How will this effect performance, if at all?

Can you tell us the rated WOT ratings for that motor and year of motor.

No prop likes solid big rocks. What kind off cupping is on the stocker.

Do you have room to lift the motor on the transom to possibly avoid some contacts?

Would a slower planing speed be helpful, so you have more time to recognize hazards.

When going from an al. prop to a ss prop its very difficult to predict results. It does make sense to go with the same numbers
You might look up performance reports on the Yamaha site with ss props. I think I saw somewhere that Yamaha uses Solas
props.
A ss prop should hold up better but if your dealing with rocks and stumps repairing a ss prop can be costly.
Usually suggested that a ss prop will hold up better in mud, sand and gravel showing little damage if any but contact with rock and stumps will do more damage.
The safety hub should protect the gear case.

Ayuh,.... So quit runnin' into Rocks,....

Switchin' to a ssteel prop will just destroy other more expensive things when ya run into Rocks,....

Perhaps you should consider switching to a jet drive outboard. No prop to tear up.

Rocks prefer aluminum.
