So Sad, Thank God they got out alive! But, that's no place for a boat that size, unless it's quite calm, and he stays close too shore, if it blows up, you gotta act fast, & know what you're doing, in order to have half a chance to get back. It appears they didn't have much experience on the water.

it was just a new boaters mistake, i had been there many times in that boat. just have to watch conditions. the storm was a wicked one, that came on fast.

what bothers me is that motor has never given one minutes trouble. hate to see it gone. it is going to be 99% trash, running in very brackish water, when it went down.

I didn't know that the St. Johns got that wide

Tashasdaddy, how old is your husky? (Sorry to sidetrack the thread).

A lot of people don't realize how massive the St Johns River is. Its average width is over 2 miles, and like TD said its widest spot is between 3-4 miles across. Depth varies a lot but there are some areas as deep as 70+feet.

Its a big slow, lazy river. All of which leads to its pollution issues since it can't "flush" contaminants to the ocean quick enough.

Glad it turned out without loss of life.

A Mung man in the cities borrowed a small boat, loaded his whole family in it, and went fishing below a dam in the spring. When he decided to leave, he pulled the anchor before he started the engine and got sucked up against the dam by the current. Someone threw him a line and he tied it to the stern of the boat. When the "helper" pulled, the boat sunk. Most of the family drowned.

A newbie on a boat that doesn't have a healthy respect for nature can really get into trouble fast.

We have a black & white 20 month old named Czar. He's our spoiled little boy. Husky's are the best.

I lived in Jax and did not realize the river was that wide.

Sorry to hear about this TD. Glad that no one got hurt!

Looked like a nice little setup. To bad for them.
