solenoid issues

how do you determain what part of the solenoid is burning up...i pulled it apart and the copper part that touches the the two big studs looks a little burnt..the coils dont looked burnt at all..thanks

The coil runs on very low current but if left energized for say 5 minutes, would feel pretty warm. All it does is closes the big "switch".<br /><br />The big lugs carry 150 amps (on my 90 hp) from the battery to the starter motor. These have to be clean, smooth, and shiny or you will get some resistance. At 150 amps it doesn't take much resistance (crud) to "burn her up".<br /><br />Mark
