Put a starter and a solenoid on my 1994 50 johnson. Have a red wire left over, I am assuming it is for the charging system, because it heavier than the normal 14 gauge wire but not the main starter wire. starter turns over, trim works. Any ideas were this wire goes?

Re: solenoid question

yes it is on that but, where does it go form there. that is the end that is connected.

Basically how/where does the wire connect from the rectifier(CHARGING SYSTEM) to the battery. My model has a terminal block. Is there suppose to be a red wire run from your +ive on you solenoid to the terminal block. I think this would allow charging of my battery. Also does it matter where on the therminal block it is connect or is it one big power distribution Bus(or split into sections)

Here is a diagram, where exactly do I connect the red wire it probably a 10 or 8 gauge wire?

Re: solenoid question

1994 is too new for me, but as applied to older motors, a red wire from the battery side of the solenoid goes first to a fuse, then into the main harness to feed just about everything. If that were not hooked up, your starter wouldn't even work. So, I don't know exactly what you are dealing with in this case.

However, to answer your question, the (yellow) wires go to the rectifier and a ?red? one goes from the rectifier to the solenoid as we were just discussing...probably via a screw on the terminal strip. One thing for sure, it isn't a bus bar.

If you have been running it without the rectifier connected, you probably have blown the rectifier anyway.
