My water pump for the baitwell isnt working, I think its just some corrosion at the switch but I forget which switch it was connected too! How can I track it down. Also basic wiring diagram on the switch. Theres a (+) and a (-) and what else? I know theres other things. Im trying to convert all my switches to basic on/off position except for my nav lights of coarse :D

Help?

Re: Some General Electrical Questions

Switches like a simple SPST (single pole, single throw) don't have a polarity associated with them. You can connect either contact to the load or the supply.

You can either trace the wire down or use an ohm meter to measure continuity of the wire.

Re: Some General Electrical Questions

The best live well / bait well switches are special switches. They usually have a on postion and off but also a position for a timer. The timer is used to save the battery and the fish. The timer usually adjustable for either on time or off time. Example would be the timer can be adjusted for 1 minute on every 5 minutes all the way up to always on.
This allow you to set so your fish and water stay cool without running the battery down too fast. Pump will automaticly turn on and add fresh cool water.

Sounds good. Didnt know about the timed switched. What about the nav light switch where it has to have one closed and one open circut, both open, and both closed.

Well I got nice and dirty today crawling under my console. Was just some corrosion and I think changing out the switch itself wouldnt be a bad idea because it sounds like its got a little bit of "sand" in it. Also realy happy too because I finally got my deck lights to work! Night time fishing here I come! Turns out somone did the most shotty job of rigging it I've ever seen. *cough* The marina I work at *cough*
