Re: Some good deals on LED TVs now? Samsung 47'"??

My living room is full of windows and I have no problem viewing my Plasma at all, my next TV will also be a plasma, I have been 100% satisfied with mine for over three years now.

Seems to me, we had this same conversation about a year ago.

Even our LCD is difficult to watch on sunny days in the family room from the sheer amount of windows. Some are 20 feet up and no window treatments and some are 8 feet tall by 7 feet wide...there is just no way a glass front Plasma would be viewable in anywhere but the basement for us on sunny days and even the basement has a lot of windows where certain times of the day is challenging. We'd have a superior plasma if it was practical.

Well I must live in a special place, my plasma is placed in a corner with over 6 foot of window on either side of it and I am sitting here watching it right now, with lights on in the house, as well as the curtains open on the windows, perhaps I am going to have to take a picture and post it, the TV has set in the same spot since the day I got it and I have never had a problem viewing it. Just to add, right now, the yard is covered in snow and the sun is shining. Very easy to see.

As I said, we had a similar conversation just about a year ago, and I am still watching the same exact TV in the same exact spot and don't have a complaint.

Interesting, is the tv surrounded by windows on all 4 sides or are there windows above it but not opposite the screen? As I am shopping for a tv currently, I may need a reeducation.

I have a very dark room where our Plasma is and the reflection of our indoor lights drive me crazy.

I will try and take a couple of pictures to show you how mine is set up with the windows, sound bar and sub. I will see if I can do it in the next day or so.

My next TV is a Sharp 70" LED when my Sony 60" bites the dust. Great picture!

And I would never buy another Sony ever again.

I wish! My 42 is pushing it in the space I have, I am just trying to figure out how to finally tell my wife that bigger is smaller, I want a 50"

The angle sometimes depends on the type of screen material used. My old 50 inch hitachi you can watch from any angle with any glare becaue it has a low glare screen. It is an lcd. I like the Lg products now, great pictures.

I have a 60" Sharp already in my bedroom. Wish the 70" was available when I bought it!

Our 42inch tv in the family room sits in a tv armoir that fits the 42" exactly with no room to spare which is fine since 42" was a big tv back when. Out of the blue the least techy person around being my wife suggests a larger tv and to get rid of the armoir and mount it on the wall. Who am I to argue with that. Now the problem is I want to hide all of the electronics in another room in an existing built in cabinet. IR repeaters are fine but I still have to re-run all the speaker wires and HDMI cables and Xbox wires and drill into the custom cabinetry in the office which I hate to do. Apparently HDMI is capable wirelessly albeit I see with mixed reviews as well but if I have to run a single wire, I will just run all of them.

Run everything through a receiver with HDMI in & outs - This does all the switching. I have one 110V cord & one HDMI behind my tv.

All my electronics sit in a closet that is on the other side of the wall. My DirecTV receiver uses RF so no IR repeaters necessary.

The new technology may force the prices down but really isn't going to be in most people's price range. 4k is probably next on the horizon but there isn't going to be any content for it and I kinda doubt you can really see the difference to today's resolutions. Its really going to be for home theater with 80" or bigger screens.

What intrigued me last year was Sharp's incorporation of Pioneer's technology into their upper LED LCD screens, Unfortunately, these were setting you back $10K or so. Really dark blacks rivaling plasma or better. Eventually it will come to the lower price consumer sets. This is one of the reason I like Sharp TVs. They have good tech.

You have a TV over a fireplace??
I would have thought that to be a really bad combo.

However, since I have a corner fireplace, in the best corner for a wall-mount, I am open to the voice of experience. :)

Do you ever find the fire distracting, and is there any heat-related issue with the set's electronics?

I bet it doesn't get too hot. I had a friend that had hers that way. With the viewing angle, my neck hurt after awhile. Sometimes, its your only option.

Gas fireplace, the mantle keeps the heat off of the tv. No problems, i was worried about the viewing angle but honestly we have not had an issue with, we love it. As far as being distracting, we use the fireplace daily and are not distracted by it.
