Hi all,
Have a 1989 SeaRay BR160 that has been a work in progress this summer with various problems...however now she seems to be running really well.
This was a boat bought from a salvage yard....it had been beached in a storm.
The issue I have is the pass through window on the windshield does not mate up with the sides as you'll notice in the photos attached. Also, the passenger seat post is exteremely wobbly, and the area around the base where the base plate meets the post is fairly loose. As the saet is meant to turn, could I get away with welding these two ? The seat itself has a post thats covered with a plastic tube....I think this is so that the seat turns?? If so then I see no problem with welding these two to get rid of the wobble.
Any help and advice on both topics appreciated.
Thanks.

the windshield doesnt mate up because either the stringers are probably rotten and the deck is starting to sag or the window frame was bent.

the fact that you bought a 31 year old boat from a salvage yard, dont expect anything less than a full-on restoratoin project.

the seat base probably needs a new plastic sleeve

Scott,
I think the window frame is bent...I have looked this boat over thoroughly, and altho not a Marine engineer, I can see no rot.
The seat post has a new plastic sleeve, but despite that, where the post meets the base in the photo is very loose....should it be like that??
And fyi....I inherited this boat from someone....I did not buy it. That person was more than capable of repairing it but unfortunately passed away. I on the other hand need help🧐
Thanks

only way to check for rot is to make test drills into the stringers and transom.

SeaRay used wood for the stringers and decks until the 2001/2002 model year change on the hulls for the 2002/2003 models.

they used wood for the transom for a while after that.

willing to bet on your 1989 boat that if you make test drills into the stringers you will find rot.
