It would be great to just start throwing m80's in there. And maybe a jerry can full of gas.

What!! Are you out of your mind!!! Waste gas at these prices!! A jerry can holds 5 gallons!!

Gas is so expensive that terrorists are throwing Milk.... granted it causes less damage, it's cheaper but it smells!! :D

I'm all for the tossing of explosives! I'm in.:D

Being from Michigan (basicaly a poisonous snake free state) I never had a problem with snakes. Then when I was in Florida golfing, I hit my usual shot into the rough and waltzed right in looking for my ball. The other guys in the foursome, who I had just met, freaked!
I'm thinking whats the big deal, while they're yelling cotton mouth!!!!:eek:

Bahhh. . .The thought of snakes makes me shiver! In wis i've only seen a few snakes on the river and a few grass snakes mowing lawn with a riding mover and backed up and turned around on a 2 ft grass snake. I hate um.

Those are great pics, DR. Snakes don't really bother me. We have quite a few snakes around here. I've seen canebreak rattlers (some people call them timber rattlers), cottonmouths, copperheads, kings, chicken snakes, and my all time favorite is a brown water water snake that is milk chocolate colored with a bright salmon colored belly (only have seen them 3 times). I've seen all of these either on my driveway or in the immediate woods. I'll take them over the pigs any day...

Uncovered a nest of Copperheads behind my shop and killed 6 adults and2 young. 2 of the dogs have been bit at least 4 times each. I have about 6 frog gigs scattered around the yard. I find them to be the best because if you stick them they can get away. Found a 8-9 inch water snake in the pool yesterday and forgot to get it out. Later the wife and I were in the pool and I was between her and the steps when she saw it. She D*m near drown me getting out of the pool. Snakes around here are a way of life.

No problem with snakes. If i recall right over 90% of the snake bites are cause by people trying to handle them and alcohol was involved in the majority of those incidents. I have walked to strike distance of a hughe canebreak. The darn thing did not rattle or nothing. I poke around with it for about 4 or 8 minutes until it decided it was enough and left without a strike or any rattling. That was in my SC hunting lease. I did not kill the snake...

My wife freaks on snakes. She saw a black snake in the bushes by the front door last year( it was looking for those dam brown cuban lizards that ran off/ate all our native chameolians) I had to shoot it (purposedly missed) before she would leave the house anymore.
I haven't told her about the snake in the backyard this week(king maybe-dull yellow with orange bands, 5 ' long but only 3/4" diameter) Hey, lizard eater, and rattle snake eater.
When she sees that one- fake shoot it again. She can't understand why I put up with snakes, after telling her about being struck at by mocs and rattlers before(not on this acre). Harmless snakes are good-lizards and mice/rats are gone.
And living here in Fl, she doesn't understand why I won't kill the spiders(they eat palmetto bugs) And this is a born-in-the-south girl.
Besides, the great crested fly catchers that raise their babies here each year, put shed snake skin in the bird house, to scare off other birds from snatching the babies, while they are off hunting bugs.
Nature ties in together. Just there- need snakes, spiders; birds got involved.

don't napalm em, you'd mess up a good pair of boots, belt and your wife a new handbag. Then cook em up. Rattler on a stick deep fried is good. Well, just about anything deep fried is good...

Re: Some things in nature just say "Stay Away"!

wow, am i one of the few who likes snakes? i have 6 of my own :p
my mom likes them too, so does my 9 year old little brother, but we've had them since he was 3 so he's kinda been growing up with/around them.

i'd have to agree with what External Combustion said. the hole is probably a den they were all in over the winter and are just coming out now to warm up. if not that then maybe a mating frenzy that just happens to have both species in it?

as for them biting, most snakes would rather flea then strike. venom isn't exactly a readily available resource for most snakes. like a skunk's spray, once its used it takes them time to produce it again. so they will avoid using it unless they really feel threatened (like when a dog tries to play with them and they think they are being attacked) otherwise they could be defenseless later on if they get cornered or attacked.

don't mind spiders either.

Re: Some things in nature just say "Stay Away"!

Just finished reading this thread in my dark basement at 1:30 am. All of a sudden, my peanutbutter cracker wrapper goes noisely sliding across my desk. Just about wet myself. Not a pet, don't know how it got in the house, But i'll be dammed if it didn't know what it was doing and when to do it. Put it outside and sent it on its way after the shock wore off after letting it jump around on the desk and monitor for a little while.

How darn funny is that. I wish I was there to see the look on your face.

All this snake talk gets me thinking about that movie.... Snakes On A Plane.
