Bought a 19 cuddy, a year ago, hardly had it in the water, when I found lots a rot, then bad motor 3L, then bad transom, I m almost done. with a full restore, on the boat
It wont be fancy or real pretty, but it will be SOLID.

And now I ve found a 28' w/twin 350s (rut ro shaggy)

Somebody talk me out of buying this, plan to have a surveyor assist in purchase, priced 10 under retail.

My plan was to fix the 19, learn my way around the water a little and then get bigger

I have no idea how to operate twins, I m still learnin to maneuver the 19.

Should I go ahead on the twins? I plan to learn all I can, laws, rules and regs.

About 6 years ago, I went from a 20' to a 27'. It was a big difference going from the smaller to the larger for me. Not only the length diff but the extra weight was what made things a bit harder for me to judge. After the first year of operation things got easier.

Mine only has one engine and that is enough for me at this time. What I didn't account for was the extra money that it needs to keep it up. It just about put this family in the poor house. The greatest part that I truely enjoy is that when it is in the water, we do spend way more time on it.

I suggest researching for operating techniques for the twins.

Well, IMO My last boat had twins, I couldn't wait to get it for that reason, then couldn't wait to get rid of it for that reason! an 86'- 22.5' Celebrity Cuddy SS with Twin OMC Cobra 4.3V6's. One big reason, was because not long after I got it, OMC went "Belly Up", and that gave my one local dealer a chance to be a bigger thief! Sure there were some advantages, and I enjoyed it for awhile, but then it became like a bad steptwins. Those V6's really liked to drink gas, nowadays thats a big concern, and of course everything was doubled at maintenance time, and you're always waiting for "the other shoe to drop" I replaced one set of risers, and didn't need to do the others, but I was waiting. Also, usually one engine controls the power steering, so you really can't alternate, and it will be run more. Also, for some reason I didn't have counterrotating props? but, it didn't seem to matter much. Because of the stiff clunky controls, and a chance of an engine stalling, I didn't use one engine against the other to turn in it's own length (as usually possible) with twins, and I had no use to go way offshore, the main reason most people get twins. Plus being a tinkerer, with one engine I could find enough reason to tinker with the engine, twins required too much tinkering. This boat was made for speed! but, From Day 1 my Port engine ran fine, but it would ocassionally stall, and I could never get it over 3K rpm? regardless of going over everything short of taking it apart piece, by piece, to find what was wrong (which I never did), while the Starboard engine would spin right up to 5K rpm easily at WOT, giving me a top speed of only 45mph?, when the boat should have been capable of 55-60mph! I never saw it, and there was no sounding board like this forum at the time to refer to. The boat was heavy for it's size, so it would track Great! meaning, once on course, nothing, or nobody, was gonna throw it off course, it rode like a tank thru rough water, fending off bigger boats, or their wake, especially in narrow channels. Finally, your not going to tow it, like your 19 footer, so figure on putting it in a marina (more expense, & less availabilty to get at it). So unless you've got bags of money in reserve, a lot of time, and some good mechanical ability, I would advise against the bigger boat with twins, but it's your call,,, If you look at my signature boat, you'll I decided to take the marina out of the picture, and K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid), Good Luck, Mike

watermellon, don't do it! I have looked at twin engined boats of that size and price range. They are either 30 years old, Bayliners with OMCs in them, or completely trashed on the inside! You are asking for trouble.

check out the folks at Winter Haven Nautical Club sometime. You'll see some cruisers like that, and they trailer them all over Florida!

It's a matter of choice - wouldn't wanna stop anyone from purchasing any particular size - the survey is a positive point of your post.
I went from a 27 footer to a kayak at one point....now I'm back to powerboats.... that's the fun of it....boats aren't like cars...there's all different types

Ok, I guess it's like Atlantic City, or Vegas, as the saying goes: "Bet with your Head, Not Over it!" If you can handle it, go for it,,, it's Your Call! Either way, Good Luck, Mike

I didn t mention one major detail, tried to edit but it didn t work, I couldn t have done any of what I hve accomplished on the 19 without the help here on Iboats,
I ve always been mech inclined so motors dont scare me but now I can glass, and find trouble with a boat without it even being in the water

I appreciate all the input, still leanin to the buy it side.
